Hansford County Court Docket Searches
There is no single countywide search box for Hansford County court dockets. Go straight to the office that holds the record. The Hansford District Clerk keeps the 84th District Court docket. That docket covers felony, family, and district civil cases. The county clerk handles County Court matters. A countywide Justice of the Peace hears its own cases. City staff handle municipal ones. Some public civil filings also show up in re:SearchTX. But you need an account there.
Before any docket search, write down what you know. Get exact party names, the likely court, the case type, the approximate filing year, and the cause or citation number. Hansford County publishes no local legend explaining its number formats. So copy the identifier just as it appears on your notice or filing. One more caution: a failed online lookup does not mean the case does not exist.
- Identify the 84th District Court, County Court, Justice Court, or municipal court as the likely owner.
- Check the official court or clerk page, then use re:SearchTX for eligible public material.
- Search with the exact cause number when known, or narrow a name search with the case type and year.
- Read the entries for filings, status, disposition, and the latest hearing setting.
- Call, visit, email, fax, or write the correct custodian for a missing record or certified copy.
Why Hansford County Has No One Docket Portal
Hansford County runs its court records on a patchwork rather than one portal. The Texas Judicial Branch says plainly that the Office of Court Administration keeps no individual case records. Texas also offers no single trial-court search reaching every court. OCA names NetData as the Hansford County clerk's case-management system. The county itself publishes no verified public NetData endpoint. Knowing the software's name is one thing. Getting a public docket search through it is another. Right now that door stays shut.
re:SearchTX adds a statewide layer. But it cannot replace each local clerk's counter. Texas Judicial Council material notes that its public document collection excludes criminal case records. Justice court and municipal court files stay with those courts. So if a docket search comes back empty, do not give up at once. Check the court level, the spelling of the name, the date range, and any restriction on the record. Also ask whether the case still lives on paper or has never been loaded into a system.
Court Dockets: What They Show
Think of a Hansford County court docket as a running index. It is not the whole case file. It lists the parties, the filings, scheduled hearings, orders, and outcome entries. The document behind each entry is a separate matter. To read the actual pleading, order, exhibit, or certified judgment, you request it or open it yourself, where public access allows. Local sources say both "cause number" and "case number." Hansford County publishes no format mask for either. So copy the case number exactly as the clerk wrote it.
| Cause number | The court-assigned identifier, shown here only as exactly as issued because no local pattern is verified. |
|---|---|
| Parties | The names or roles used to identify the matter, subject to redaction and access limits. |
| Docket entries and filings | Dates and labels for petitions, motions, responses, orders, and other case events. |
| Hearing settings | The event date, time, hearing type, and other available setting details. |
| Court and judge | The court level and judicial officer connected to the entry. |
| Disposition | The recorded outcome, which should be checked against the signed order or judgment. |
Reading Hansford County Settings and Status Terms
The 84th Court works with a small vocabulary: setting, trial setting, docket, and inactive docket. Each term marks a different point in court administration. None of them is a result by itself. A setting only means a date was placed on the calendar. Before you read any of these labels as an outcome, look at the surrounding entry. Check any signed order too.
- Setting
- A scheduled hearing, trial, or other court event. A request is not confirmation that the event was granted as submitted.
- Continuance
- A court-approved move to a later date.
- Reset
- A replacement date after an earlier setting changes; it does not mean dismissal.
- Inactive docket
- A status for qualifying older untried actions under the 84th Court's rules, with possible rather than automatic dismissal.
- Disposition
- The outcome recorded for the matter, such as a judgment, plea, dismissal, or trial result.
Hansford County Courts and Their Dockets
The 84th Judicial District Court is the general-jurisdiction court for Hansford, Hutchinson, and Ochiltree Counties. Within Hansford County itself, the lineup includes the constitutional County Court, one countywide Justice of the Peace court, and municipal courts for Spearman and Gruver. Each court keeps its own records in its own lane. Even when two cases grew out of the same event in the same county, their dockets sit with different clerks.
| Court | Docket Covers | Where to Search |
|---|---|---|
| 84th Judicial District Court | Felony, family, and district civil matters | Hansford District Clerk, 84th Court calendar, and re:SearchTX where available |
| Hansford County Court | Supported county criminal, civil, and probate matters | County Clerk function in the combined clerk office |
| Justice of the Peace Countywide | Justice-court civil and criminal matters, including cited cases | County Justice page and JP office |
| Spearman and Gruver Municipal Courts | City ordinance and qualifying Class C matters | The applicable city or municipal court staff |
Hansford County District Court Dockets Cross County Lines
One court, three counties. The 84th Judicial District Court covers Hansford along with its neighbors. That shape matters for anyone tracing a Hansford County court docket. Hansford filings live with the District Clerk in Spearman. The court's administrative office sits in Stinnett, over in Hutchinson County. So a calendar posting or staff contact on the 84th Court site may look out of place at first. Yet the case record itself still belongs in Spearman.
Judge Curtis W. Brancheau presides. The official county page lists a court coordinator and a reporter as well. Jury panels get told to report Mondays at 9:00 a.m. That instruction covers jury service only, not every Hansford hearing. Whatever setting appears in your case controls. Confirm it before you drive anywhere.
The court's local rules explain how dates land on the calendar in the first place. Requests come from counsel or a party. The court administrator slots them in the order they arrive. Each request goes through the 84th Court website and carries an estimated length. It must also be copied to opposing counsel and the district clerk. A certificate of conference is required too when opposing counsel is known. That process is why the date you asked for can differ from the one that finally shows on the Hansford County court docket.
Court Dates and Settings in Hansford County
The 84th Court's calendar and hearing-request page pairs an embedded calendar with a request form. Be ready to supply the county of hearing, event date and time, title, estimated length, your details, attorney names, case number, style, type, and interpreter need. Filing the form does not lock in a setting. It is a request, not an order.
Read the newest entry on the calendar. Then confirm any change with the coordinator, the clerk, your attorney, the JP, or the municipal court as fits your case. Hansford officials post no daily printed calendar, no reminder program, and no archive of past calendars. The full Hansford County court schedule walkthrough lays out each way to confirm a court date.
When Hansford County Docket Search Is Limited
eFileTexas treats Hansford civil e-filing as mandatory in the district, county, and probate courts. Search access gets marked as limited. Criminal e-filing is mandatory for the district and county courts too. Mandatory filing does not promise open searching. If re:SearchTX comes back empty, work down the local fallback chain rather than assuming the Hansford County docket holds nothing.
- Recheck the court level and copy the cause number without adding an unverified suffix.
- Ask the combined clerk whether the record is paper, archived, sealed, juvenile, expunged, or not integrated.
- For a Justice citation, use the official Justice page and call the JP if the displayed vendor route does not resolve.
- For municipal matters, contact Spearman or Gruver rather than the county clerk.
A blank public result may reflect access or indexing limits and does not establish that a case never existed.
Hansford County Court Docket Address Conflict
Pick an address carefully here. Hansford County's own homepage and contact page put the courthouse at 16 Northwest Court, while the district and county clerk pages put the clerk office at 15 Northwest Court. OCA records split the same way. Add the phones to the puzzle: the 84th Court lists a clerk number ending in 4111, and the county clerk pages list 4110. Two doors, two numbers, one block.
The building itself is well documented. The Texas Historical Commission record describes a Moderne courthouse listed on the National Register in 2019, with Townes, Lightfoot & Funk and John P. Work named in the architect fields. It gives no construction year, so treat any date someone quotes from it as guesswork.
That official listing helps you recognize the public building. It will not tell you which entrance reaches the clerk counter. For that, use the phone.
Call ahead before you drive over. Confirm the entrance, the counter, office hours, and whether a public terminal exists.
Docket Access Under Texas Law
Access to Texas court records depends on what kind of record you want. The Texas Public Information Act covers government information broadly. But the Texas Judicial Branch takes a different view. Judicial records are not governed by that act in the same way. Rule 12 handles many non-case judicial records. Case files differ. Sealing, redaction, juvenile material, and expunction answer to court rules and specific statutes instead.
Key Rules:
Texas judicial open-records policy explains the line between court case records and non-case judicial records.
Texas Rule of Judicial Administration 12 supplies access procedures and exceptions for judicial records outside case files.
Texas Rule of Civil Procedure 76a provides a public presumption and sealing standards for defined civil court records.
Texas Family Code Chapter 58 establishes confidentiality and sealing rules for juvenile records.
What a Public Hansford Docket May Leave Out
A public index can hide plenty. Hansford dockets may omit or mask juvenile information, sealed civil material, sensitive data, expunged criminal references, or filings the portal never collects. Rule 21c addresses sensitive data. Chapter 55A governs current Texas expunction proceedings. Rule 76a sets its own definition and standards for civil court records.
If a docket search stalls, ask the clerk. The record may be restricted, sealed, expunged, juvenile, redacted, or just absent online. Request a docket sheet or index first, then ask whether a redacted copy can be released. Never push staff to disclose what a law or court order keeps confidential.
Remember what a docket is not. An entry may show that a motion, order, judgment, or exhibit exists without displaying the document itself. A portal may offer only metadata. It may charge for documents. Or it may skip an older item still sitting at the clerk's office. So an incomplete search is not the end of the story.
For genealogy or historical work, ask whether material is archived. Also ask what date range the electronic system covers. For a current case, give the clerk the exact entry date and title. That lets staff find the item. A broad name search is not the final answer on court records.
How the Clerk Keeps Docket Records
Hansford County runs one combined district-and-county clerk office. Janet Torres appears on both county pages at the same address, phone, fax, and email. The functions still split. District-clerk work holds 84th District Court records. County-clerk work covers constitutional County Court criminal, civil, and probate categories. The JP and municipal courts keep their own files.
Requests can start online, by phone, at the counter, by email or fax, or in writing. The office confirms its preferred method. Give the cause number, case type, item wanted, copy format, and whether you need certification. Hansford publishes no current copy-fee schedule or public-counter hours, so confirm charges and timing before you send payment.
Know the difference between copy types. A plain copy is an ordinary reproduction. A certified copy carries the clerk's authentication, and the receiving court or agency decides which one it requires. Ask before you pay. Also ask about electronic delivery, postage, and whether redaction or a staff search changes the total. County budget materials mention court technology and records management, but they are not a fee schedule and should not be read as one.

Hansford County Municipal Docket Routes Differ
Spearman and Gruver are Hansford County's only incorporated cities. Morse is a census-designated place, not a city, so it gets no municipal docket page. The split is practical. A city citation or ordinance matter starts with the city court, while a county or district matter starts with the right Hansford County office.
OCA's live directory names Gary L. Ellsworth as Spearman's municipal judge and gives a city contact route. Gruver's official site posts public notices. It also posts a payment link. But the payment page says “Coming Soon!” and offers no live court-payment form. So skip the promised portal. A Gruver docket search leans on city staff and the proper county fallback.
City-by-City Court Dockets in Hansford County
Municipal matters in Spearman and Gruver stay in the local court lane unless the case type belongs higher up. Each city's record page covers that city's contacts, docket gaps, court dates, citations, and the point where a search must move to Hansford County.
Spearman Court Records
2020 population 3,171 · OCA publishes a named municipal judge and city contact.
Gruver Court Records
2020 population 1,130 · the official payment page has no live payment form.

The 84th Judicial District Court's Hansford felony, family, and district-civil records, along with the constitutional County Court's files, are kept by the combined District and County Clerk at 15 Northwest Court, in Spearman. The county's own homepage locator gives the courthouse as 16 Northwest Court, one door number off the clerk's own listed address, so calling ahead to confirm the entrance is worthwhile before a visit. The 84th Court's central administrative office is a separate building in Stinnett, in Hutchinson County, and does not serve Hansford in-person filings.

No public-terminal, parking, transit, or security-screening policy is published for the courthouse, so a call to the clerk before travel is the safer route. Public-counter hours were not posted on the official pages, another reason to confirm timing in advance.
